Hewitt attended Southern Oregon University where he earned a B.A. in Art with a minor in Spanish Literature in 2000. He received an M.F.A. in New Genres from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2004. He is currently working as a freelance photographer, color management consultant and photography instructor.
His work is focused on raising awareness and helping people build positive connections between each other and their environment. A sense of place and what it means to be part of one’s local situation are also key themes. This includes a respect for the land and those who live on it with us, whether they are other humans, plants, animals or forces outside the typical spectrum of urban existence. Such forces vary from the esoteric and spiritual to the very practical, such as beach cleanup activities and organic farming.
